Blog post #8

Men are known to be better at certain jobs than women are. Men are pushed by society in a way to do better at there jobs. Automatically men have a better chance of getting a job at any profession than a woman would.

William, L. Christine. "The Glass Escalator: Hidden Advantages for Men in the "Female" Professions". Men's Lives.5th edition. Michael, Messner A. Michael. New York: Allyn & Bacon. 2001. 211 224. print.

Summary: Williams is trying to show us that women struggle with trying to get a profession, but men on the other hand are on the glass escalator going up to the top without any pressure.

Assesment: This is a good source to use for a class because it has a lot of statistics and research. Williams did not only research information from other sources but, she also did interviews on her own.

Reflection: The source fits into my research because, I can use the sources that Williams gave to find more information.

Blog post #4: Manning Marable

Throughout American history, blacks were discriminated against because of the color of their skin. Blacks were subsistent to their white masters. whites would physically abuse their African American slaves by castrating, lyncing, raping and stripping black men of their manhood. white males performes these punishments because they felt intimidated by African Americans. They could not fathom the idea that African Americans were smater or more physically stronger so they prohibited blacks from reading and writing . Knowledge is power and whites stripped blacks from these basic rights because they feared that if blacks were given the chance to get an education blacks would rebel aginst them.

Who's the Man

Paul Theroux says "being a man means being stupid..." and Manning Marable believes a black man is a father, husband, lover..." I believe the Marable describes a man as more masculine than the way Paul Theroux did. Being a man means being a hardworker, being a good dad etc. I do agree that men can be stuped at times but a man is known to be the dominant gender. Paul Theroux only tells us why he dislikes being a man but, Marable tells us what a man is expected to be in society. He also tells us what different issues a white man and a black man has to deal with. I believe the way Marable described a male is more masculine.
