I believe that men are made not born. I belive this because growing up as a child your parents will buy you toys and clothes based on your gender. yes if you were borned with a penis your a male, but after birth you get treated like a boy is suppose to be treated. Your father wants you to be tough and play sports, because that is what a man is known to do. Your mother buys you " boys" clothes and toys, and you will play with little boys. Because a child grows up with everyone telling them or showing them how they are suppose to act based on their genders, they might be ashamed or scared to act as how the opposite gender will act. This is why i believe men are made and not born, because even though they you were born with a certain gential, they are told how to act by your peers or family. This world is what makes a man.
What shocked me in this reading is that doctors remove genitials if a male was born with a "small" penis. I mean come on it's a newborn that we're talking about here. His penis is suppose to be the size of a grown man penis?
The way partents, peers and society in general interact with and treat a boy helps him to understand what it means to be a man. In this regard you are absolutely correct, the boy is made into a man, not born, because that's what he is taught, and he wants to be recognized as such. But are clothes and toys markers of sex or gender? As you note, it is at birth that a boy's or girl's sex is confirmed. Is a boy who plays with dolls a male?
ReplyDeleteYes, I do believe clothes and toys are markers of gender. As I said parents will buy clothes or a certain color clothing to show the gender of the child. A boy who plays with dolls is a male. Its his parents and peers that will make it seem as if he is a female buy buying him such toys. So males are not born, they are made by the clothes they wear, or the toys they play with.
ReplyDeleteThe Male is confirmed at birth, the sex that he is. but it is only after birth that they know how to become a man. so i agree with you because after a male is born, he doesn't know how he is supposed to act, what toys he is supposed to play with, what feelings he has to have, what clothing he has to wear etc. so the people around him teach him and tell him what he basically has to do to be a man.
