Blog Post #3: The Male Myth
Paul Theroux says "being a man means being stupid, be unfeeling, obedient and soldierly, and stop thinking". I do agree that men do all theses things but, just because your a man it does not mean you have to be "manly". There are a lot of things men are known to do, or how they have to behave. You were born a man so be a man, society does not have to make you "manly". I agree and disagree with this statement, being a man means being stupid, soldierly, etc...but it's up to you to make yourself a man and not let society make you "manly".

You seem to be suggesting that men have a choice when it comes to how they will present themselves to society and in what type of manner they will behave. Am I on the right track? This seems to go along with what we have discussed in class regarding men having more privileges and freedoms. In other words, men can chose how they behave, and because they are men, no one should be able to question whether they are masculine or not. Reread your paragraph and try to identify the topic sentence as well as supporting examples.
ReplyDeleteFor the graphic organizer, you can create a chart or a cluster, just as I drew on the board, or simply make a list, of the observations you wrote down in class last Friday. The objective of the exercise it for you to identify relationships between the observations you made about the male in the photograph, and how each of these observations relates to the next one. Remeber that each piece, each individual observation should be illustrating/helping the reader to see why the person in the photograph is a male.
